BACK ISSUES OF SOUTH FLORIDA RADIO NEWS	Christian radio station WEXY (1520) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is known locally for its many syndicated or brokered Christian radio programs. The South Florida Radio Pages need your support! Thank you! WEXY was sold in 2002 and it seems to have a lot more brokered non-religious content than before. Did you know it used to be a country music station WIXX, competing with two other wountry/western stations on the AM band? Previously known as WIXX, its slogan in the 1970s was "Top Gun In Broward ... WIXX" with gunshot sound effects during the short pause. (I'm amazed that I remember such obscure trivia!) They were in a storefront office on West Oakland Park Boulevard. IMHO, WIXX was weak competition for south Florida's big country stations of the era: WWOK (1260) in Miami and WGMA (1320) in Hollywood. In 2006, the City of Oakland Park established a dog park on the WAXY transmitter site, which the city leases to the station. More about that in a future edition of Radio News.
