BACK ISSUES OF
(Atlanta, GA -- March, 2008) ... Ever since his second fair Tax
book, FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics The contents of his first book, The Fair Tax Book: Saying Goodbye to the Income Tax and the IRS Boortz is no longer heard locally, but you can listen to him
mornings on the web, at WSB Radio
in Atlanta.
(March 10, 2008) ... In honor of St. Patrick's Day, Accuradio.com has introduced Radio Celt web radio, with six channels of Celtic
music. (It's pronounced kel-tic, not sel-tic, because it relates to Ireland, not basketball.)
AccuRadio call itself "the world's leading independent, multichannel Internet radio station,
featuring over 280 channels and subchannels of really cool music."
Radio Celt includes six sub-channels:
I'm listening now.
(March 17, 2008) ... David N. Bossie, the author of Hillary:
The Politics of Personal Destruction (Asheville, NC -- March 16, 2008) ... Former WIOD traffic reporter George Sheldon has landed a TV
traffic reporting gig at Sinclair Broadcast Group's WLOS-TV Channel 13 in Asheville, NC.
This will be the first time that News 13 WLOS will be doing traffic and they are excited to have
major market talent doing it. We wish him well.
George Sheldon left WIOD and Clear Channel after the negative changes of December 6th 2006, "When
they took me off the air and said I'd be a producer... and fired other people, amidst the sense of
paranoia within the building." The Miami native
started in radio in 1983, but he says that "as a result of the Clear Channel debacle I have left
South Florida for good."
After visiting south Florida in January, Sheldon observed that "WIOD traffic reports aren't as
comprehensive as when the old team of Don Anthony, Joe Brennan, Trish
Anderson, Terri Griffin, and
George Sheldon was in place. It was the end of an era in traffic reporting, and WIOD will never be
the same."
George Sheldon has written a commentary about what's wrong with Miami radio, as demonstrated by
the latest (3/7/08) Miami Arbitron ratings. Watch for it to be posted next week.
(Fort Lauderdale, FL -- March 3, 2008) ... ManTalk 640, James
Crystal Radio's appalling and low-rated 17-month-old radio experiment
in appealing to the lowest common denominator, has come to an end, not
with a bang but with a whimper, as of the beginning of March. Now
they call it"WFTL Fox Sports" -- bringing the total to five sports
stations between the Miami and WPB radio markets. Now that's an
intelligent choice! I wonder, will there be even less local content
than before?
Throughout ManTalk's congenital troubles, no one ever expected a
that a return to the popular WJNA nostalgia format would be
considered. So this latest flip did not disappoint. It was inevitable.
No, Mantalk 640 was not designed to impress. For many weeks after
its inception, James Crystal had a pretty but empty web site, with
just "coming soon" pages and a program list graphic on ManTalk640.com.
Some of the web site's empty pages were never filled.
The South Florida Radio Pages had detailed information about
ManTalk programming from WMEN's second day on the air, based on news
stories and painful listening to some really, REALLY bad programming.
On that sad Tuesday, I wrote this about their lame Mike & Mike
show, for South Florida Radio History:
Oh well. Maybe James Crystal Radio's next flip will be better.

(W. Palm Beach, FL -- March 11, 2008) ...
Sommers, once the host of
what may have been the most popular show on James Crystal's now defunct nostalgia station WJNA, is
doin' the oldies again, this time on WSVU "Seaview 960" in the Palm Beach market.
"On January 26th I launched "Jammin' Jon's Jukebox" on 960 WSVU-AM" says Sommers. "It airs every
Saturday from 1 to 5 PM and in six short weeks it has done very well. I'm playing the best of the
50s, 60s & early 70s plus requests and dedications toll-free at 1-877-960-9960."
"I'm amazed at the
outpouring from my former WJNA listeners who have shown their loyalty to me and the oldies music I
am trying to keep alive. I have gotten hundreds of emails welcoming me back which makes what I do
truly a labor of love! The show is just like my former WJNA show only better because it's available
worldwide in full digital stereo on the internet as well. Go to SeaViewAM960.com and click on Listen Live. Check it
out!
Click on On-Air Personalities and see my picture and bio. It's a BLAST FROM THE PAST!!!!!! It
truly is great to be back on the air and having fun with my music and my great listeners."
Radio History: (Miami FL -- March 10, 2008) ... Eddy Edwards' Caribbean
Riddims, formerly heard on WTPS,
From 9 AM 'til 6 PM on Saturday, WKAT features programming with a Caribbean flair.
During Caribbean Riddims, there are several features. At 4 PM,
attorney Marlon Hill shines his political spotlight on issues
effecting the Caribbean Community. At 4:30 PM, Ken English talks for
the fish who frequent Liquid Lounge.
You can also listen online. Eddy says "Visit CaribbeanRiddims.com. Read the
instructions, then click on the logo. The player looks 'ragged' but it
works. If it doesn't, let me know."
Watch Ken and Eddy in the January 5th segment of Liquid Lounge:
Following is WKAT's entire Saturday Caribbean lineup: WKAT's weekday programming is mostly comprised of conservative
talkers (Mike Gallagher Radio History:
(March 10, 2008) ... One recent weekend I cought an unintentionally
humorous moment when tuning down the dial. I think it was Cigar Dave
on WIOD, speaking about successful networking among cigar smokers. So
I heard a matter-of-fact (albeit carefully worded) pronouncement that
parents of teenagers should be happy if their kids aspire to be
cigar smokers someday, because that means they want to be successful and enjoy
the good things of life.
If enough people actually believed his outrageous and illogical
fallacies such as this, the speaker could have a promising career as a
lobbyist, which pays much better than radio.
Craig Crossman's Computer America is heard weeknights on
WJBW "MoneyWatch 1000" at 10 PM.
(March 14, 2008) ... Jones Radio Networks have announced the addition of The Todd Schnitt Show to
its impressive talk show roster. The high energy, outspoken and edgy show combines a healthy dose of
politics and world news, yet has an active rock edge that helps balance political and lifestyle
radio. Jones also syndicates talkers Neal Boortz, Clark Howard, Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, and
Bill Press.
"The time has come for talk radio to get the 25-44 demographic, JRN will do that with Todd Schnitt.
Finally, we have Talk Radio with a Rock Radio edge", said Amy Bolton, Vice President of Talk
Programming for Jones Radio Networks.
Schnitt, a 20-year radio veteran, also hosts The MJ Morning Show on WFLZ-FM in Tampa, FL, on
which he goes by the name "MJ Kelli". On numerous occasions both shows have been simultaneously
rated number one in the coveted 25-54 demographic. The Schnitt Show alone has been ranked number one
and number two, amongst all stations, Men 25-54, in five consecutive books in his home market of
Tampa.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver my style of an exciting, fast-paced and unpredictable
form of talk radio. Unlike some shows, I've tossed the obligatory check-list out the window. What's
my take on the day's hottest issues? Don't assume, listen! I look
forward to a great partnership
with Jones Radio Networks and Jones MediaAmerica, and providing a successful advertising vehicle for
our clients" says Schnitt.
Schnitt gained national publicity last year with a series of "Total Nut Jobs" billboards
suggesting that he was as crazy as bald Britney Spears, prompting the bald one to call her lawyers.
See Bald Britney Featured on Schnitt Billboard in June 2007 Radio News.
The Schnitt Show is heard weekdays from 3 'til 6 PM on WIOD 610.
Interestingly, the Jones P.R. all refers to it as the Todd Schnitt Show, rather
than just The Schnitt Show, as it has been known. I wonder if Jones is considering a name change?
Maybe they think that his great old slogan, "Don't touch that dial. It has Schnitt all over it"
might be offensive to some demographics? (Maybe they never heard the spot euphemising that Todd
Schnitt was Odd Sh--.)
But Schnitt says "It is still the Schnitt Show." Good!
(Sunrise, FL -- March 16, 2008) ... Darlene Lopez, whose WKPX show Sunday Blues With Dar
will soon complete its 15th year, is spreading the word about Bob Sweet who is being treated for cancer.
"Bob Sweet has done quite a bit for the South Florida Blues Society in the past. Now it's our
turn to help him" says NyteOwl Jack.
As many of Dar's listeners are aware, Bob Sweet (SweetSound.com) has been diagnosed with cancer. He has a large
growth in his neck that is malignant and needs to be removed, and he'll have to undergo chemotherapy
and radiation treatments. Bob does not have medical insurance and the treatments he requires are
very expensive.
The guys at MusicToyz.com have created a BobSweetAuctions eBay
account where folks are listing auctions for donated gear, such as guitars, amps, and boutique
effects pedals. The proceeds of all sales go directly to Bob. You can help Bob by donating a piece
of gear or other worthwhile item you aren't using anymore.
"Since I have access to the account, I can act as a liaison for any SFBS member [or anyone -Ed] who wants to
participate" says NyteOwl Jack (jack at nyteowl.com). "Interested parties can email me pictures and
a description of their item(s) so I can list them, and when the auction ends I'll send them the
winner's address so they can ship the item. As it is a charitable effort, all participating sellers
are shipping items at their own expense. For example, Bob Beaudette donated a GR-20 Guitar
Synthesizer to the cause. Here's a link to the auction I posted for him:
Roland GR-20 Guitar
Synthesizer." (This auction is finished, but look at the description and other items.)
"Our friend Bob Sweet needs to undergo chemotherapy, and radiation treatments" adds Dar. "Sadly
Bob does not have medical insurance. The treatments that he requires will be very expensive and have
already taxed Bob and his wife financially. A lot of people are sending donations directly to Bob's
paypal account, which is: b0bsweet at bellsouth.net (that's b-zero-b) and here's a link to The Bob
Sweet Charity auctions set up by MusicToys: Bob Sweet Charity auctions. We
wish Bob all the strength to fight this evil, and keep him in our prayers."

Mantalk 640 R.I.P.

My first impression of these guys was that they were a
pair of puerile jerks. After ten minutes of listening to them making
fun of former WJNA listeners and the entire state of Florida -- and
playing Ken Pauli's voice mail -- I decided there must be something
more intelligent to listen to on another non-James-Crystal station.
